I learned to read while listening to a bright red cassette tape of The Hobbit and dreaming up dozens of backstories for the illustrations in the read-along book. Other treasures in my childhood home included The Lord of the Rings series, Dune, Watership Down, A Wrinkle in Time, and a moldering set of encyclopedias.
In second grade I wrote my first mystery adventure featuring my best friend, a blue plaid stickhorse named Calandeline. But my first serious work produced the Hot Wheels saga – tales of love, wild chases and revenge set in the vast wooden-block city on my playroom floor. Years later, I’m still writing tales with secret passages, dark alleyways, and that indefinable human yearning that can breathe life into the most inanimate of objects.
And to tell you the truth . . .
I’m a bit of a recluse. I have never had a personal presence on the web. No Facebook, no blog? Nada. I use the internet – I shop on eBay and Amazon and avidly read. But socializing? I tend to do that the old fashioned way – you know, texting. And lunch dates.
After I polished my recent novel and decided to send it out, I discovered just about everyone recommends writers have an internet presence. So I swallowed my glittering array of social phobias and created this website, joined Twitter, and plunged into my beloved Pinterest. And while I don’t get out much, I do truly enjoy people and conversation. So please feel free to contact me or say hello if we run into each other IRL. In fact, according to my MBTI, I’m an extrovert.
I live near Macon, Georgia with my family and my giant, ferocious dog. As far as a day job, when I’m not tagging along with imaginary people I can be found either volunteering or creating real-world objects (more about that soon). I also enjoy planning adventures, playing games, trying new recipes, and tending my herb garden . . . all the while daydreaming about faraway lands and dangers and lovers.
